The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Greece, in collaboration with the Marianna V. Vardinoyiannis Foundation and the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, invites the Greek public to a charitable performance with traditional dances and music from Azerbaijan, on Saturday, 27 September 2014, at 21:00, at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.

The Azerbaijani state Dance Ensemble will perform, for the first time ever in Greece, accompanied by the Azerbaijani State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli.

At the ancient Odeon, the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a unique performance that will combine the long dancing tradition of the Caucasian country with the timber of the State Symphonic Orchestra, which balances between classic and contemporary, traditional and cosmopolitan sounds.

The performance in the Odeon of Herodus Atticus is the highlight of the cultural events listed in the agenda of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Greece that promotes the rich cultural tradition of Azerbaijan to the Greek public, aimed to the further development of the bilateral cultural, diplomatic and economic relations of the two countries.

The event will be honored by the presence of Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Head of the Baku 2015 European Games` Organizing Committee, who will visit Greece to promote the games that will take place in Baku in 2015.

Tickets are available in the prices of 10 euros (lower section) and 5 euros (upper section).
All proceeds will go to support greek schools

  • Azerbaijan State Dance Ensemble was founded in 1970. Within 44 years, this ensemble has been a striking promotion of Azerbaijan choreography based on national dance traditions. People’s artist of Azerbaijan, Afaq Malikova has been conducting the ensemble since 1984. The repertoire of the ensemble includes colorful dances inspired by the music of important Azeri composers, such as Jahangir Jahangirov, Telman Hajiyev, Said Rustamov και Haji Xanmamadov. The performances of the ensemble are highly appreciated in USA, Japan, Italy, France, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Israel, Tunisia, Algeria, Turkey, India, Nepal, Australia, Switzerland, China, Iraq, Vietnam, Morocco, Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, and Belgium and in all republics of the former USSR.
  • The Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeir Hajibeyli was founded on 1920. The Orchestra performs works by Azeri composers: Gara Garayev, Arif Malikov, Faraj Garayev, Agshin Alizadeh and foreign composers such as G. Maler, I. Stravinsky, C. Debussi, A. Bruckner, J. Brahms that occupy an honorable place in the orchestra’s repertoire. The Orchestra has successfully been in tours to France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, Egypt, the USA, United Arab Emirates and other foreign countries. The Orchestra is an active participant of the annual festivals “Music of XX century”, “Gabala International Music Festival” and “International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival”.

A musical performance jointly prepared by the widely renowned conductor Mr. Azad Aliyev and Professor Farhad Badalbeyli, art director, celebrated pianist and University President of State Music Academy of Baku. The members of the orchestra - young professional musicians, singers, and talented students of the Musical Academy of Baku - have received multiple awards in international musical competitions.

On the anniversary of the tragedy that happened in Azerbaijani city Khojaly of Nagorno-Karabakh, 22 years ago, where Armenian military forces attacked and committed mass crimes against civilian inhabitants, leading to the death of more than over 600 people, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Greece organized the screening of the film "Khoja", dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide.
Azerbaijani stand successfully opened at Thessaloniki International Tourism Exhibition

Jazz concert «Emil Afrasiyab & friends» from Baku

The jazz band «Emil Afrasiyab & friends» will play live at the Benaki Museum for a unique concert. They will play Azerbaijani mugham jazz, at a concert devoted to the 20th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
